Training at Cannon Hill

Since the last post we have been busy conducting training at the Cannon Hill premises. Fifteen trainees from as far away as Mornington Island, Richmond, Texas and Blackall attended the week long training. Topics included online searching of databases, storytelling, downloading files into the library mangaement system and placing requests for inter-library loan, all necessary skills for the efficient running of a public library. The next training course will be available in November.
Calendar of events lists the training available until December 2007.

Mackay in July

Since my last post we have had a CLS training course in Brisbane in May. There are four courses per year two of which cover basic housekeeping and two cover advanced topics. This one covered library management in more detail & my session involved collection development.

I have diversified this year with training for the public at the new State Library facility at Southbank. Blogging for beginners on June 18 allowed some blog novices to create their own blog and start communicating on the net. We had a lot of fun.

This week I am in Mackay with training hosted by the local council. I took the Train the trainer session & Mary is running through Library 2.0: blogs, wikis and feeds. The venue is great & we have enjoyed our stay in Mackay.

North Queensland training

In May I visited several libraries in North Queensland. The weather was perfect & road conditions were good for our 1,000 kilometre foray west.

We had a lot to discuss in Cloncurry as its been awhile since there was a library visit to the area.
